About Oportun Financial Corporation

About Oportun Financial Corporation

Oportun has extended more than $21.8 billion of credit through more than 8.0 million loans and credit cards since 2005, and serves 2.8 million members through a mobile app, a website, a telesales team and 126 retail locations. The lender recorded net income of $25.2 million in 2025 after a net loss of $78.7 million in 2024, and it earns over 90% of its revenue from interest on member loans.

The core product is a fixed-rate, fully amortizing unsecured personal loan capped at 36% APR, ranging from $300 to $10,000 with terms of 12 to 54 months; the average loan originated in 2025 was $3,098, and the weighted average APR at origination was 35.2%. Secured personal loans backed by an automobile run from $2,525 to $18,500 at a 33.0% weighted average APR and are offered in 8 states. Set & Save, a machine-learning savings product, has helped members set aside more than $12.5 billion since 2015. Loans are funded through securitizations, warehouse facilities and whole loan sales, and the company's interests in financed loan pools are first-loss interests. Competitors named in the filing include payday lenders, auto title lenders, pawn shops, neobanks and other nonbank lenders. Loans receivable carried at fair value represented 88% of total assets at December 31, 2025.

Show full overview

Bank-partner dependence is the lens that matters most. Pathward originated approximately 98% of aggregate personal loan originations in 2025, up from 92% in 2024, and unsecured loans are made in 39 states through that partnership versus 2 states under the company's own licenses. The program agreement was extended through 2029 with automatic two-year renewals, but either side may terminate for material breach or change of control. If the relationship were suspended or ended, replacing it might require new state licenses, which the 10-K calls costly and time consuming, and could delay new loans.
