Investment thesis

3D Systems screens as a deep-value name with a wide margin of safety, but a failed momentum gate, a negative FCF/NI red flag, high short interest, and weak growth keep the engine cautious despite the cheap headline valuation.

About 3D Systems Corporation

About 3D Systems Corporation

3D Systems' Healthcare Solutions segment relies heavily on two customers, which accounted for 12.2% and 11.4% of consolidated revenue in 2025, with one of those two customers alone representing 16.0% and 15.0% of revenue in 2024 and 2023, respectively. The company organizes its business into Healthcare Solutions (dental, medical devices, personalized health, and regenerative medicine) and Industrial Solutions (aerospace, defense, transportation, and general manufacturing) segments, employing 1,418 full-time and part-time employees as of December 31, 2025, down from 1,833 a year earlier following a 2025 restructuring plan. Roughly 60% of employees are based in the Americas, 34% in EMEA, and 6% in APAC.

3D Systems earns revenue from selling 3D printer hardware, proprietary materials, software such as 3D Sprint, and services including maintenance, applications engineering, and advanced manufacturing capacity, promoted through a direct sales force, channel partners, and appointed distributors. The company manufactures and refurbishes printer hardware at facilities in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Riom, France, and produces materials in Rock Hill, Marly, Switzerland, and Soesterberg, Netherlands, having in-sourced manufacturing from contract partners in recent years to improve quality and cost control. It holds 854 patents worldwide as of December 31, 2025, down from 1,247 a year earlier, with principal patents expiring through 2034. The company carries $92.0 million of 5.875% convertible senior secured notes due 2030 and $3.9 million of 0% convertible senior notes due 2026.

3D Systems' customer base is more concentrated than its broad end-market list suggests: the 10-K discloses that two customers within the Healthcare Solutions segment represented 12.2% and 11.4% of total revenue in 2025, and that this exposes the company to concentrated credit risk because a significant portion of accounts receivable may sit with just those two large customers. With one of the two having generated 16.0% of revenue as recently as 2024, a pullback or payment problem at either customer would weigh disproportionately on results relative to a supplier whose top accounts each represent a smaller share of a more broadly diversified base.
